As we experience another record-setting year of heat waves, wildfires, storms and other climate change impacts, Urban Design Utah invites you to join me to hear from a unique and innovative entrepreneur working at the forefront of building de-carbonization in North America.
Chris Magwood has been doing experimental work with building technology using the most ubiquitous tool of carbon-sequestering — plants! Plant based materials have been used for human shelter as long as humans have been building shelter. The industrial revolution led us toward materials and methods that transformed buildings and were innovative for their time, but have also pushed us toward a tipping point of carbon dioxide, nitrous oxides, methane and other greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, which are major drivers of global warming and climate disruption.
Chris will share ideas and information about the new “green revolution” happening that not only makes buildings “less bad” but can actually transform them into “carbon positive” sequestering solutions.
